  • 1½ cups brown sugar (for caramel sauce)
  • 1 cup cream (or non-dairy alternative)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease an 11 x 8-inch casserole dish.
  2. Soak chopped dates in baking soda and hot milk for about 15 minutes.
  3. Mix flour, baking powder, and salt in one bowl; blend eggs, butter, dark brown sugar, and vanilla in another.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients, adding soaked dates for a smooth batter.
  5. Pour batter into the prepared dish and bake for about 30 minutes until golden.
  6. While baking, prepare the caramel sauce by melting butter, stirring in sugar, and adding cream until thickened.
  7. Once baked, poke holes in the cake and pour some warm caramel over it; let it soak for about 15 minutes.
  8. Serve topped with additional caramel sauce and whipped cream.
